Namibia’s Roads Authority (RA) announced that applications for Road Carrier Permits can now be submitted at any NaTIS office nationwide, effective from 1 February 2026. The decentralisation is meant to cut costs and simplify processes as well as improve access to services, thereby bringing them closer to communities, especially people in remote towns and rural areas. Previously, documents had to be delivered directly to the Permits Office in Windhoek, often forcing applicants to pay courier fees or travel long distances.
Under the new system, NaTIS offices strictly act as drop-off points for applications and collection points for permits once they are issued. Applicants are urged to double-check paperwork before submission. Applications must be fully completed and include all supporting documents, including proof of payment for the relevant permit. In towns without a NaTIS office, the public is asked to use the nearest available office. The RA also confirmed work is under way on a long-term solution to allow online submissions in the future.
Services handled via NaTIS include applications for new road carrier permits, vehicle replacements on existing permits, transfers between individuals, requests for duplicate permits, changes or additions to approved routes, and applications for temporary permits while approval under Section 20 is still pending.
Enquiries about the status of applications should still be directed to the Permits Office in Windhoek via E-Mail, as before, at cloetem@ra.org.na or simataau@ra.org.na, or by phone on 061-444450/1/2/3/4. More details on permit requirements are available on the Roads Authority website.
