The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works has urged the prublic to exercise caution as multiple routes affected by heavy rains experienced.

Motorists and visitors to the province should exercise extreme caution, following sustained and heavy rainfall that has impacted several key routes across the Namaqua and Frances Baard Districts. Gravel roads and various regional routes have become dangerously wet and slippery, increasing the risk of accidents. The Department has commenced the installation of warning signage on hazardous sections to ensure road user safety.

High-risk routes in the Namaqua District - Two major roads have been flagged as particularly dangerous and should be approached with utmost caution. The Kamieskroon Road (DR2951) – known locally as the “Op die Berg” Road and Khuboes Road (DR3247/3246). Weather forecasts predict that rainfall in this district will subside possibly by Thursday, potentially easing current conditions.

Affected roads in the Frances Baard District - While the Kimberley, Jan Kempdorp, Delportshoop, and Ritchie areas have not yet experienced major visible damage, several roads have been reported as affected but remain drivable. Kimberley and Surrounding Areas - MR811: Douglas to Schmidtsdrift, DR3355: Olifantshoek to Schmidtsdrift, DR3354: Vaalharts, MR802: Witpit and MR910: Schmidtsdrift to Papkuil.
