The Ford Ranger Super Duty will deliver next-level, work-ready capability to serve South Africa’s toughest Ranger customers when it arrives on local shores in 2027.
Born from direct collaboration with customers, Ranger Super Duty is a new bigger bakkie that is set to redefine capability in the already hard working bakkie segment. It has been engineered and designed to deliver enhanced towing, carrying and off-road capability required by those who need it to deliver more functionality on demand, including emergency service operators, farmers, utilities and forestry workers, miners, infrastructure technicians and many more.
“Ranger Super Duty blends the smart features and advanced safety of the award-winning Ranger with heavy-duty capability and delivers what our buyers told us they needed but couldn’t get anywhere else. This enhanced capability of the vehicle will give owners the flexibility they need to get the big jobs done, with the confidence of a factory-backed warranty,” said Neale Hill, President Africa Operations. “This will be a first of its kind model introduction in South Africa, and aligns with Ford’s vision to match superior product capability directly with customer needs,” continued Hill.
For the adventure enthusiast, the Ranger Super Duty will serve as the ultimate overlanding platform, providing the heavy-duty backbone needed to traverse extreme terrains and tow large caravans to the most remote corners of the continent. It will empower those living the ‘Ranger Life’ to push their boundaries even further, ensuring that no destination is out of reach and no piece of gear is left behind.
This new model was developed by Ford's International Markets Group Product Development team, led by a 1,500-strong group of designers, engineers and specialists with the primary aim of being able to tow more, carry more and do more. The Ranger Super Duty is planned to be offered in double cab and single cab configurations, which means the vehicle can be adapted to for use across various industries and will appeal to both commercial customers and adventure enthusiasts.
“The Ranger Super Duty further strengthens our commercial vehicle portfolio, with an offering for all kinds of work. As we move towards launch in 2027, we will continue to work closely with customers from various sectors as well as vehicle modifiers through the Ford Pro™ Convertor program, to be sure that Ranger Super Duty is configured for the on-the-ground needs of South African consumers,” said Hill.
The Ford Pro™ Convertor program is designed to enhance the level of support provided to our customers seeking specialised vehicle customisation to make their vehicle ready for work or recreation. All Ford Pro™ Convertors undergo a comprehensive assessment by Ford to ensure the quality of their production and installation methods align with our quality standards. “With Ford Pro™ Convertors the sky really is the limit,” added Hill. “Customers can work with their preferred dealer to adapt their Super Duty to suit their specific industry or personal requirements; be it adding a bullet proof conversion or adapting the loadbed for a specific use-case.”
