Namibia’s broadcasting landscape entered a new era last week: with the launch of the internet-based channel OneUpTwo, a home-grown digital TV and streaming platform has been introduced that places Namibian stories at the centre and brings them together. Developed by Emeraldsand Platforms (ESP), the service is built and presented as “Namibia’s own digital TV platform” – signalling a clear shift toward local content and digital independence.
At the launch, Richard Botha, Executive Director of Network Data Hub (NDH), said that OneUpTwo is designed to give Namibian narratives the visibility they lack on global platforms. Although local videos circulate on social media, they often get lost in the crowd: “This is a streaming platform that focuses exclusively on Namibian stories,” he said. “Elsewhere everything becomes vague and distant, but here we can show what we have and what we can do.”
Viewers choose content - Botha emphasised that OneUpTwo offers several channels on the platform, including NTV Namibia, NTV Afrikaans, NTV MyZone, as well as a growing selection of continental programmes – including the Tourism Namibia show in German. The platform reaches around 200 million people per year, demonstrating its impact across Africa. OneUpTwo goes beyond typical streaming services by giving viewers control over how they want to consume content and offering creators their own stage for high-quality Namibian productions.
Hennie Geldenhuys, Director of Synergi Namibia – a key partner of the ESP group – highlighted that the strength of the platform lies not only in its technology, but in the ecosystem built around it. He described it as a privilege to be part of OneUpTwo’s launch, referring to Synergi’s nationwide media reach, event presence, and continental influence. “Our job is to connect people – to make our clients’ work visible through the media we manage,” he said, praising the creative teams for the visual impact that strengthens campaigns on the platform.
Geldenhuys stressed that changing user behaviour makes OneUpTwo especially relevant: “Prime time is my time now. I want to watch content when and where I want, and that’s what makes OneUpTwo so strong.” He concluded by presenting Synergi’s exclusive elite partnership package, offered first to those present, marking OneUpTwo’s strategic push to unite local content creators and brands with the audience under one digital roof.
