The Lüderitz Crayfish Festival has become one of Namibia’s signature cultural and tourism events, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond its borders.
The 19th edition, scheduled from 28 April to 3 May, will once again showcase not only the seafood for which the southern harbour town is known, but also the creativity of entrepreneurs, artists, fishermen and the hospitality sector. “This year’s festival is held under the theme ‘Crayfish & Currents: Where Heritage Meets Innovation’, reflecting the evolving identity of our harbour town. The stage is set, and with the financial backing of various sponsors, the community is ready to entertain visitors in a way that only the people of Lüderitz can,” said the chairperson of the management committee of the Lüderitz Crayfish Festival Trust, Victoria De Klerk.
Events will begin with the Miss Lüderitz Crayfish Festival 2026 pageant at the German Hall on 24 April at 17:00. “The pageant represents more than just a competition. It is a showcase of confidence, grace and the spirit of Lüderitz, celebrating beauty, talent and the rich cultural heritage of the coastal community,” De Klerk said. Twelve contestants will compete for the title, which will be handed over by reigning Miss Lüderitz Crayfish Festival 2025, Faizah Bwalya. Namibian musician Yeezir will provide entertainment during the evening.
Festival activities continue with beach parties at Aeroplane Bay, featuring DJs including Erro, Samora, Chulo, Stizzo, Jule, Kustah, Klapz, Espino and Grabu. Music remains a central highlight of the programme. The festival’s main music bash, set for 2 May at the Lüderitz Sports Stadium, features a mix of Namibian and South African artists. The line-up includes kwaito artist Gazza, Sam Deep (South Africa), King Biko, Uncle Talam, DJ Keanue, DJ Morgan, Shax Champion, TBozz, Staika, DJ Firozza, Mapiiano and VV Gang. “You can expect soulful rhythms, deep basslines and an atmosphere created by top performers. Just come join the jam,” De Klerk said.
Sporting events are also part of the programme. These include a mountain bike race over 25 km and 50 km, starting at 07:00 on 2 May at Aeroplane Beach, as well as a 10 km run at 07:25 and a 5 km fun walk at 07:30.
A motorsport spinning event is also expected to draw large crowds. With a diverse programme combining food, entertainment and sport, organisers say the festival continues to play an important role in promoting tourism and local economic activity in Lüderitz.
