The Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF) will host the inaugural Lüderitz Oil and Gas Youth Open Day 2026 under the theme, “Building Readiness. Creating Access" at the Lüderitz Waterfront Auditorium on 20 June 2026 in Lüderitz.

The initiative seeks to create a practical and inclusive platform aimed at connecting the Lüderitz community directly to Namibia’s growing oil & gas industry through engagement, information sharing, career guidance and supplier readiness discussions. "Namibia’s offshore oil and gas sector continues to evolve, Lüderitz has increasingly emerged as one of the country’s most strategic coastal towns within the energy landscape. However, despite being geographically close to ongoing developments, many young people and local businesses continue to face limited access to industry-focused engagement platforms and information," said Erastus Angula, NYEF projects and marketing coordinator.

Hosted as part of the organisation’s Youth Day commemorative activities, the programme will focus on strengthening awareness and readiness through career guidance and industry exposure. Topics under discussion will relate to youth employability and workforce readiness, SME and supplier participation opportunities, procurement and local content, entrepreneurship and business formalisation, networking and stakeholder engagement. Various industry operators, service companies, financial institutions, recruitment specialists, training institutions and public sector stakeholders operating within Namibia’s energy ecosystem will feature at the event. The 300 expected participants include learners, students, young professionals, SMEs, parents, community stakeholders, industry representatives and local authorities.

According to NYEF Chief Executive Officer, Fanuel Shinedima, the programme is intended to ensure that local communities and youth are not left behind as Namibia’s energy sector expands. “Lüderitz is becoming increasingly important within Namibia’s energy future, and it is important that young people and local businesses are equipped with information, exposure and access to opportunity. This initiative is about creating practical engagement between industry and community,” he said. The event is free, open to the public and will take place from 08:00 to 15:00.
